06/16/2008: "Kicking Off Summer"

Summer is finally here! Actually, it's sort of amazing to me that summer is already here but I guess that's the way it is with a baby. One second they're up all night and the next they're walking away from you.

Regardless, I have plans for this summer. Last week, while I was chaperoning our 8th grade picnic at the nearby indoor swim center, I got a 3 month pass for myself that includes free admission for Dessa. The place has a lazy river, two huge slides (which we, of course, will not be taking advantage of this year), a wading pool, a kiddie pool, an Olympic size lap pool, a hot tub, changing rooms, a workout center and a lot of other amenities. I'm planning to bring the baby at least twice a week and go for workout time myself another 2 times a week. (That'll also give Nana her baby fix a few times a week!)

And we know that Dessa loves swimming. On Saturday we went up to my Aunt Ro's house for a get-together and they have a pool. It wasn't the first time Dess had been in a pool but last year she was such a little thing she didn't get anything out of it. This time she was thrilled. Her face looked fit to split, her smile was so huge and she laughed and screamed and jumped from Mommy to Daddy to Nana and back for a good long time. It wore her out, but as usual she refused to nap until we were back in the car and on the road.

Then she sort of fought the sleepies anyway.

I think she's still recovering from the workout she got. She slept like a log Saturday night, took two long naps yesterday, slept well again last night and is into hour 2 of her morning nap today. Swimming will be good for everyone, methinks.

As yesterday was Father's Day, I left things pretty open for Dave. He wanted to make breakfast, which he did and then we entertained the notion of going to the park but eventually decided we were too lazy to do it. We spent the day watching movies and playing with Dessa instead. Daddy has taught her a new trick.

It's cute as anything. As far as it does. Of course, I knew I was in trouble last night when Dess didn't want to go to sleep but rather preferred to lie on my shoulder, blowing lazy raspberries and patting me on the back. I have to admit, it was soothing. The kid sure knows how to put me to sleep.
