02/07/2009: "From the "Aaaawwwww" Department"

This is a disjointed entry because 1)I have a lot to cram in and 2)I am late to a hair appointment. Saddle up and let's ride...

We've been having unseasonably warm weather lately (which translates to "drought" but we'll worry about that later), so we've been spending time out in the backyard. Dessa loves it back there.

One of her favorite things to do is simply run around. She'll get going and run run run. "I runnin'!" she announces, laughing her head off. You can't help but laugh with her.

She also adores sidewalk chalk. At this point the most she does with it is scratch it along the ground, but she will hold it out and implore us to "Wah!" (draw) letters for her. When she gets really worked up she'll grasp chalk in both hands and shake them while screeching with glee.

It takes so little.

Back in August one of our neighbors was having a yard sale and we picked up some bargains. We got a huge kitchen play set that I cleaned up and which is waiting in the garage for consistently better weather so I can move it to the yard for outdoor play. They also had a Cozy Coupe car and we got the kitchen and the car for $5. Together.

Dessa's mommy finds the bargains. Dessa is learning from the best.

(The sly look on her face in this picture belies her sweet nature. She is crafty.)

After several months of searching out the best value and size for a toy box, I finally found one I liked. It took some phone calls but I hunted one down at the Toys R Us in San Jose and my wonderful mom drove down and picked it up (it was the last one in stock and we had a coupon that we wanted to use). It took about 10 seconds to put together and Dessa spent half an hour carefully putting one toy at a time into it.

After she tried to put herself into it, of course.

This last picture is hot off the presses. Just before I put her down for her nap today she was insisting that Daddy and Mommy put their heads down with her for nigh-night. When I got the camera, she popped her head up and hollered, "Mi-yul!" which she says anytime she sees a camera now (which is odd because I don't tell her to smile when I take pictures of her). Then she put on the cheesiest grin in history.

Maniac baby.
