Excuses? I Don't Need No Stinking Excuses

Let's pretend that little interlude never happened, shall we? I am back and that is all that matters.

Right? RIGHT? Sigh

(Let's also pretend that the post I JUST FINISHED wasn't accidentally completely erased, ok? Because if we don't pretend that I may have to stab myself in the head).

August saw me, as usual, trying to fit 10 weeks of summer into the final 2 weeks off work. This happens every year. I always wildly overestimate how much time I have off and then I look at a calendar and freak out because I've accomplished nothing. Thus, we were very busy in August.

(Yeah, yeah, that's my excuse. I was so busy. I was too busy to post in August. Right).

Anyway. We took Dessa to the SF zoo. Dave and I and the baby, along with Nana and Ella, all trekked up there and to be honest I don't really know how much Dessa got out of it, though she loved walking around and following her hero, Ella, everywhere.

She did have her first merry-go-round ride. She was less than enthusiastic. In fact, she kept trying to claw her way off the horse and into my arms while I kept trying to convince her that she was having a great time. Odd, that.

She is a hell of a good sport though. She tries to seem like she's enjoying things even when she's pretty wigged out about them. I love the fakey "OK Mom, if you say so" smile. Poor kid. I foresee a lot of therapy out of this one.

We also fit in an overnight trip to Mendocino to visit my aunt and uncle. It marked Dessa' first hotel trip. She was really overtired and had a little trouble getting to sleep but she's a trooper and loved looking at new things and making new friends (she offered complete strangers her sippy cup on several occasions).

On the way home we stopped in Berkeley and went to the marina for a little lunch and leg-stretching time. While we were there, Dess discovered the boats and loved pointing them out to us. This is my new favorite picture.

Who couldn't love that?
